HUNTER Surf Lifesaving and the Westpac Rescue Helicopter Service will benefit from a charity day at Belmont on Monday, November 27.

Formerly known as the Hunter Golf Professionals day, it has been held for more than 15 years and raised more than $300,000 for various charities and service groups throughout the region.

Lake Macquarie Golf Schools is managing the event, which is being sponsored by Sharp Electronics Office National and NBN Television.

Most Hunter-based professionals either attend or support the five-person ambrose event. Each group will contain a Hunter professional or celebrity player.

Players can register at their nearest pro shop for $135 each or $540 for a team of four, which covers green fees, lunch, on-course refreshments, dinner (including wine) and entertainment.

Registration is from 10am for an 11am shotgun start. Dinner, entertainment, an auction and raffle will begin at 6pm.

? Belmont professionals Kurt Linde and Graeme Stockley will hold a demonstration day at the club from 10am to 2pm on Saturday.

Representatives from all the major companies, including Callaway, Titleist, Ping and TaylorMade, will be on hand to show off the latest clubs and equipment.

Stockley welcomed all players, or anyone interested in golf, to front up on Saturday and try the gear.

? Muree still offers one of the best deals around for midweek golfers.

Green fees are generally $20, but every Thursday the club offers 18 holes on one of the region's best-kept courses, plus lunch, for just $12.

Large groups should contact Terry Robinson in the pro shop on 4987 2978 to arrange a tee time.

Since daylight saving started, fees are only $10 after 3pm any day of the week.

? Belmont's Rudi Bezuidenhout was one of seven new faces named in the Golf Australia national squad for 2007 yesterday.

The 22-player squad comprises the best amateur golfers in the country. Twenty-year-old Bezuidenhout is one of 14 males, including two United States-based golfers, selected.

Squad members will compete in major amateur events, including the national selection trials and the Australian Amateur Championships, and will vie for Australian team selection.

Fellow Newcastle golfer Nick Flanagan is a previous member of the Australian squad.

? The annual Beresfield Bowl men's open golf tournament will be staged on November 25.

It is an 18-hole stroke event for men who have a maximum handicap of 27 and women up to a handicap of 45.

Anyone who wants more information about the event should contact the pro shop on 4966 4665.
